A beechwood plaque award is cut from one piece of pale blond beech, thick enough to stand on its own, with the top edge shaped into a slow S curve wave. Union stewards, school boards and long service committees hand it over when a flat certificate would have been forgotten.
Twenty five year anniversaries, retirement dinners, apprenticeship completions and donor thanks all sit well on wood, and because the piece is 1.375 inches thick it stands on a shelf without a stand, a strut or a wall fixing. Three sizes are made, 4.75 by 6.25 inches, 5 by 7 inches and 5.5 by 7.875 inches. Laser engraving cuts the wording dark brown into the face, includes one colour fill and covers up to 4.75 by 7.125 inches on the largest, which is room for a ribbon banner above a name and a paragraph of citation below it.
