What wood are wood plaques made from?

Wood plaques in this range are made from American walnut, rosewood, bamboo, oak and cherry. Bamboo and walnut are stocked as solid boards with visible grain, while rosewood most often appears under a piano finish. The species for each item is listed on its product page.

What does piano finish mean on a plaque?

Piano finish is a high-gloss lacquer applied over the wood board, not a type of wood. It gives a mirror-like surface and appears on rosewood, walnut, ebony and black boards in this range. Choose a satin walnut or bamboo board instead if you want the grain to show.

Are wood plaques engraved or printed?

Both, depending on the item. Most wood plaques carry a brass or aluminum plate that is laser engraved or screenprinted, and some take a full-color sublimated plate that is printed rather than cut. The method is recorded on each product page.

What sizes do wood plaques come in?

Board sizes in this range run from small desk-scale pieces up to 12" x 9" and larger, and each size is listed on the product page along with its plate area. Several items, such as the Fairfield range, are offered in small, medium and large versions of the same design.

Can a wood plaque be personalised for each recipient?

Yes. Each plate is engraved individually, so every plaque in an order can carry a different name, date or citation while sharing one logo and layout. Send the name list with your artwork and you will get a proof showing the layout before anything is engraved.

Do wood plaques come with wall fixings?

Fixing method varies by item and is recorded on the product page. Wall-mounted boards in this range are supplied ready to hang, and a small number of items are designed to sit on a base or easel instead, which the product name states. Ask us if you need a specific mounting.

What is the difference between a wood plaque and a metal plaque?

A wood plaque has a timber board as its body, while a metal plaque is either metal throughout or a board fronted with a brass or aluminum plate. Most recognition awards are wood boards with a metal plate, so many items appear on both pages. The difference that matters for price is the board, not the plate.

Custom Wood Plaques | Engraved Walnut & Rosewood Awards

Wood is the largest part of our plaque range and the shape most people picture when they hear the word: a solid board with an engraved plate on it. This page covers walnut, rosewood, bamboo, oak and cherry boards, plus the high-gloss piano finishes.

Woods and finishes in this range

Solid boards include the Bamboo Engraved Plaque and the Cherry Finish Beveled Award Plaque. American Walnut appears across the range in rolled-edge and cove-edge profiles. Rosewood appears mostly as a piano finish rather than bare timber.

Piano finish is a finish, not a species

Piano finish is a high-gloss lacquer applied over the board, and it is the most common treatment here. It appears on rosewood, walnut, ebony and black boards, including the Black Piano-Finish Award Plaque and the Black Piano-Finish Shooting-Star Award Plaque. If you want visible grain, ask for a satin walnut or bamboo board instead.

Edge profiles

Boards are cut with a plain, beveled, cove or rolled edge. The Cherry Finish Beveled Award Plaque and the cove-edge and rolled-edge walnut boards are all in this range. The edge changes the look considerably at the same board size, so it is worth choosing deliberately.

Plates and engraving

Most wood plaques in this range carry a brass or aluminum plate that is laser engraved or screenprinted. Some carry a marble-look plate, such as the Black Marble Finish Award Plaque with Silver Plate, and some take a full-color sublimated plate. The plate is what your logo and text go on, so its size sets how much you can fit.

Ordering

Board sizes, plate sizes and production time are listed on each product page. You approve a free proof before anything is engraved. Ask us for a quote with your quantity and we will price the sizes that fit your text.
