Custom Glass Plaques, Etched and Color Filled
Glass changes the way a plaque reads. Light passes through the panel and catches the cut, so an etched mark looks white against whatever sits behind it. That is why most glass styles here are sold either on a wood base that supplies the dark background or on standoffs that lift the panel off the wall. The Decree Large Glass Plaque Award is 8" W x 9" H x 3" D with a rosewood base and a 4.5" W x 5.5" H area on the front or the back; the medium is 7" x 8" x 3" with a 3" W x 5" H area.
Four ways to mark glass
Deep etch prices on seven of the styles stocked here and cuts furthest into the panel, giving the strongest white and the most depth. Sandblasting prices on four and produces a softer frosted surface across a wider area. Color fill prices on two and drops pigment into a sandblasted recess, which is the only way to get a brand color onto plain glass; the Newell Vertical Rectangular Plaque at 5" W x 7" H x 1/2" D prices color fill and sandblasting across a 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" area, both as one color. A digital full-color process prices on three, including the Decree family.
Front, back and layered glass
On a clear panel the mark can go on the face or on the reverse. Etching the back leaves the front smooth to the touch and puts the image behind a layer of glass, which reads with more depth. The Two-Layer Beveled Glass Plaque stacks two panels on pins and prices deep etch and full color at 5" x 7", 6" x 4" and 6" x 9". The Blackwell Mirror Plaque uses mirror rather than clear glass and prices deep etch from 5" x 7" up to 10" x 13". The Plaque with Wooden Back pairs glass and wood at 7" W x 9" H x 1" D with a 6" x 8" area.
Ordering and quantities
Glass plaques start at one piece on every style here. Break patterns are 1, 5, 12, 25 on five styles, 1, 7, 13, 25, 50 on three, 1, 6, 10, 25 on the Decree family and 1, 6, 24 on the Newell and Plaque with Wooden Back. Setup runs $45 to $100. Glass is heavier than wood at the same footprint, so tell us the ship-to state when you ask for pricing.
