30 questions Β· All FAQ topics

What is embroidery?

Embroidery stitches your logo directly into fabric with thread, creating a dimensional, premium finish that never peels or fades the way ink can. It is the classic decoration for polos, caps, jackets, and bags, and the look most people read as "professional." Browse decoration-ready styles in promotional apparel.

What products can be embroidered?

Polos, button-downs, hats, beanies, jackets, fleece, hoodies, aprons, towels, blankets, duffels, and backpacks all embroider well β€” if a fabric can be hooped on a machine, it can usually be stitched. Start with embroidered apparel or hats.

What is digitizing?

Digitizing converts your logo into a stitch file the embroidery machine reads, mapping every stitch direction, density, and sequence. It is done once in-house, and we keep the file on record forever, so future embroidered orders skip the digitizing step entirely. See our artwork and logo file guidelines.

Is there a digitizing fee?

A one-time digitizing fee may apply to a new logo, based on its complexity, and it is shown clearly on your quote. After that, the file is yours on record β€” reorders and new embroidered products reuse it with no repeat fee. Request a quote to see the exact cost for your logo.

How is embroidery priced?

Embroidery is priced mainly by stitch count: bigger, denser designs use more stitches and machine time. Most left-chest logos run 5,000–10,000 stitches. Thread color count usually does not change price β€” size and complexity do. Get an exact figure when you request a quote.

How many thread colors can embroidery include?

Modern machines handle up to 12–15 thread colors per design, with no per-color charge in most cases. That said, clean 2–5 color logos typically stitch sharper than rainbow designs at small sizes, so we may simplify busy art for a crisper result on a left chest.

Can embroidery match my Pantone colors?

We match threads as closely as possible to your PMS codes. Thread comes in fixed dye lots, so matches are near, not mixed-to-exact like ink. Your free proof β€” or a sew-out on request β€” shows the selected thread choices before production. Send PMS codes with your artwork files.

What is the standard embroidery size for a left-chest logo?

About 3"–4" wide is the classic left-chest spec; cap fronts run roughly 2"–2.5" tall because of the curved panel. We size your logo to each garment's sweet spot and confirm the dimensions on your proof. Browse polos and hats sized for left-chest and cap-front logos.

Can you embroider small text?

Lettering below about 0.25" tall tends to close up in thread, so fine print does not always stitch cleanly. We will thicken, simplify, or enlarge tiny text β€” or recommend printing instead β€” so your message stays readable. For ink-friendly fine detail, see screen printing.

Does embroidery work on all fabrics?

Embroidery excels on stable fabrics like pique, twill, fleece, and canvas. Very thin tees, slick nylon shells, and stretchy performance knits need adjusted technique or backing β€” and sometimes we will honestly recommend a different decoration for the best result. Explore stitch-friendly apparel.

Can performance and moisture-wicking polos be embroidered?

Yes β€” with the right backing and reduced-density digitizing to prevent puckering. Performance polos are among our most-ordered embroidered items, and the digitizer compensates for stretch automatically. Shop golf and polo shirts and performance styles.

What is 3D puff embroidery?

3D puff stitches over a layer of foam to create raised, sculptural lettering β€” the bold look on premium caps. It suits chunky letters and simple shapes; intricate detail flattens, so we adapt your art for true dimension. See it on baseball hats.

Can you embroider over seams on hats?

Standard cap fronts avoid the center seam on structured 6-panel hats, or use seamless panels. Designs spanning seams stitch unevenly, so we position the art β€” or recommend a hat style β€” to keep your logo flawless. Browse seam-aware hats and baseball hats.

What is the difference between flat embroidery and patches?

Flat embroidery stitches directly into the garment; patches are embroidered separately, then sewn or heat-applied. Patches deliver consistent decoration across mixed items, a vintage look, and a way to decorate hard-to-hoop areas. Both are available across our apparel and headwear.

Do you offer leather or PVC patches?

Yes β€” laser-etched leatherette, woven, embroidered, and rubber/PVC patches are available for caps, beanies, jackets, and bags. Patches photograph beautifully and have surged in popularity for premium merch. Pair them with baseball hats or beanies.

Will embroidery puckering happen on my garments?

Not with proper digitizing, hooping, and stabilizer β€” that is our job. Puckering is a symptom of poor density settings on stretch fabric, and our process is tuned per fabric type to prevent it. Every order ships only after a proof you approve. Contact us with questions about a specific garment.

Is embroidery more durable than printing?

Generally yes β€” thread is woven into the garment and survives industrial laundering, which is why uniforms and workwear are embroidered. The trade-off is that embroidery cannot reproduce gradients or photographic detail; for those, screen printing is the better choice.

Can you embroider names individually on each garment?

Yes β€” personalization such as names, titles, and numbers is available per piece for a small fee each. Send a spreadsheet matching names to sizes and we handle production sequencing so distribution is easy. Great for staff jackets and polos.

Can a full back design be embroidered?

Large-format back embroidery up to roughly 10"–12" is available on jackets and heavyweight garments. Stitch counts get high, so we quote it directly and may suggest a hybrid of print plus embroidery if budget is tight. See heavyweight jackets suited to back designs.

What is an embroidery sew-out and can I get one?

A sew-out is a physical stitched sample of your digitized logo on test fabric. We can provide one before full production when color accuracy or fine detail is critical β€” a small cost and time add that buys certainty. Ask for a sew-out when you request a quote.

Why does my embroidered logo look slightly different from my printed logo?

Thread has sheen, dimension, and a minimum detail size that ink does not. Good digitizing translates β€” not photocopies β€” your logo into stitches, so expect a faithful, premium interpretation rather than a pixel-identical match. We confirm the look on your free proof first. See artwork tips.

Can you embroider on beanies and knit caps?

Yes β€” beanies are a top seller. Stretchy knits use special backing and slightly bolder art, and a leather patch is a great alternative for fine-detail logos on knit textures. Shop beanies and hats ready for stitching or patches.

Can you embroider with metallic thread?

Yes β€” metallic gold and silver threads are available for an upscale accent. They are slightly less flexible than standard polyester thread, so we use them for highlights rather than large fill areas. They look especially sharp on jackets and caps.

Is there a minimum order for embroidery?

Embroidery minimums are low β€” often 6–24 pieces depending on the item β€” because there are no screens to burn. It is one of the best methods for small, premium runs like executive gifts or staff jackets. Order free samples before you commit.

Can you mix garment styles under one embroidery design?

Yes. Once your logo is digitized, we can run it across polos, caps, jackets, and bags in a single order, with each item priced at its own quantity. One logo file builds an entire branded wardrobe β€” browse apparel and hats to combine.

How should embroidered items be washed?

Machine wash cold inside-out with mild detergent and no bleach, tumble low or hang dry, and iron around β€” not on β€” the stitching. Treated well, embroidery routinely outlives the garment around it. The care details for your specific items are confirmed on your order.

Can embroidery be removed or redone if my logo changes?

Removing stitches risks visible needle holes, so re-decorating existing stock is rarely clean. When a rebrand is coming, tell us early β€” we will right-size your final order of old-logo goods and prep the new digitized file. Contact us before your next reorder if a logo change is planned.

Do you keep my digitized embroidery file for other products?

Yes β€” once digitized, your stitch file is archived and reused across any embroiderable product, order after order, with no repeat digitizing fee for the same design at the same size. That lets you add polos, hats, or jackets later with zero setup.

What is the largest area you can embroider?

Standard hoops handle roughly 12"Γ—14" on flat goods, while caps are limited by the front panel. Oversized statements like jacket backs and blankets are quoted by stitch count β€” share your vision and we will spec it. Request a quote for large-format embroidery.

Embroidery vs. screen printing β€” how do I choose?

Choose embroidery for premium perceived value, durability, and structured fabrics like polos, caps, and outerwear. Choose screen printing for large designs, t-shirts, fine multi-tone art, and the lowest cost at volume. Many programs use both β€” we will map it for you. Learn more about apparel decoration.
